Joseph Louis "Joe" Cravens
Funeral services for Joseph Louis Cravens, 75, of Vian, OK, will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, September 2, 2016 at Vian Baptist Church in Vian, OK, with Pastor Mack Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery in Vian under the direction of Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home of Webbers Falls.
Joseph was born November 14, 1940 in Webbers Falls, OK, the son of Versie and Tarvie Jane (Jones) Cravens and passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2016. He was the fourth of six children born to the Cravens. He attended Green Chapel School and Webbers Falls School where his grandfather gave the land to build the school on. He was Valedictorian of his 9th and 12th grade classes. After graduation, he attended Oklahoma State University and Northeastern State University. He taught eighth grade math at Summitt, Taft, and Webbers Falls. Joe was a longtime member and Deacon of First Missionary Baptist Church in Vian where he was a faithful member until his health failed.
He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted daughter, Armanda Grizzard; two brothers, James “Son” Cravens and wife, Mildred, of Vian, and Dwight “Ike” Cravens of Stillwater; sister, Barbara Clark and husband, Jimison, of Tulsa; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant brother; and baby sister, Betty.
