Obituary for Louie Jackson

Louie Jackson
Louie E. Jackson was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 7, 2017. He fought a very brave fight against illness and difficulties. He was surrounded by his family as he went to glory.

Born August 16, 1945 in Hanna, OK, Louie was one of many loved children by his mother, Luella (Red) Jackson and father, Tim Jackson. While attending Weleetka schools, Louie excelled in sports especially football. After graduation, Louie went on to Eastern State College in Wilburton, OK, where he would meet the love of his life, Kathleen (Durant) Jackson. It was during this time that Louie was called into the military. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. While being stationed at Fort Hood, Louie served in many positions, but serving as military police was his biggest accomplishment.

It was after his time in the military that Louie began to focus on his education. He pursued a degree in physical education. It was also during this time he married Kathleen. Louie and Kathleen were very focused on furthering their education. After they had received their degrees, Louie and Kathleen spent time in Arizona and New Mexico helping native students. This is where Louie’s love for coaching was shown. His first coaching position was a football coach.

Louie returned back to Oklahoma to receive his Masters in Education. At this time, Louie welcomed his first child, Kelley Ray. Just after receiving his Masters from Northeastern State in Tahlequah, he accepted a position as football coach at Chilocco Indian School. While there, Louie also was coach for basketball, baseball, and many other sports and administrative duties.

Just before the closing of the school, Louie welcomed his second child, Kimberly Kay. Louie accepted a position at Bacone Jr. College in Muskogee. During his tenure, Louie served many roles from basketball coach, teacher, administrator, and sponsor just to name a few. His greatest joy at Bacone was his relationship with the students. Louie could be found playing pool, playing basketball, and just sharing soda with students.

After his time at Bacone, Louie began a new career at Sequoyah High School in Tahlequah. Again filling many roles, Louie served as Dean of Students during his final days before retirement.

Louie enjoyed golfing, being outside, visiting with his family, and laughing. His greatest joys came from his grandbabies, Tony and Piper. He also loved his church, Fife Memorial in Muskogee. Louie made a very brave effort his last days to attend and be a role model to the church.

Louie is preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen; and daughter, Kim; mother, Luella (Red) Jackson; father, Tim Jackson; brothers, Tecumseh Jackson, Billy Joe Jackson, and Thomas Jackson; and sister, Betty Hogshotter.

Louie leaves behind son, Kelley Jackson and wife, Crystal, of Fort Gibson, grandchildren, Tony and Piper Jackson of Muskogee; brothers, Jackie Jackson and wife, Diane, of Okmulgee, Robert Jackson of Okmulgee, Jake Jackson and wife, Molline, of Eufaula, Andy Jackson and wife, Karen of Oklahoma City; and sister, Suzanna Marshall of Weleetka. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Katherine Prince of Enterprise; brother-in-law, Bill Durant of Talihina; many other nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.
