Peggy Wilson (Wiles)
Peggy Wilson of Muskogee, Oklahoma, passed away at age 95 on December 20, 2017 at Eastgate Village Healthcare Center. Born Wilma Verniece Wiles in Quinton, Oklahoma, Peggy was predeceased by her husband Tom Wilson, and is survived by her two sons, Luie Tom Wilson and his wife Brenda, of Porum, Oklahoma, and Clyde Morris Wilson and his wife Judith, of Tiburon, California. Peggy is also survived by her granddaughter Katharine Shotz and husband Andy, her grandson Todd Smith, and her great-grandchildren Monica Smith, Rachel Rushton (Tyler), Kane, Tara, and Cole Shotz, all of Marin County, California.
Born on August 13, 1922, Peggy was the first of ten children of Louie Gaylord Wiles and Ruby Sanders Wiles. When Peggy was young, the family moved to Posey Hollow, Arkansas, where she graduated from Acorn Consolidated High School. She married Tom Wilson on February 20, 1943 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and bore her two sons there. The young family moved to Muskogee in 1950, where Tom and Peggy raised their boys and happily spent the remainder of their lives, celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary in 2013, prior to Tom’s passing in 2014.
Peggy loved her children and working in her garden, and was active in her church, where she taught Sunday school and became the District President of the Women’s Society of Christian Service for the Methodist Church. She also served as president of the PTA for Alice Robertson Junior High School. For twenty years, she was the chief operator for Muskogee Two-Way Dispatching, where she and husband Tom worked together.
Peggy is also survived by her siblings Andy Wiles (Juanita) of Broken Arrow Oklahoma, Edith Lott (Herman) of Russellville Arkansas, Vera Hensley of Wylie Texas, Bennie Wiles (Joann) of Mena Arkansas, and Wanda Scott (Thomas) of Boles Arkansas. She was predeceased by husband Tom, parents Louie and Ruby Wiles, siblings Gaylord Wiles, Jessie Wiles, Boyd Wiles, Agnes Wiles, and great-grandson Tyler Shotz.
