Obituary for
Joanna Hester
Joanna Scott Masterson Hester was born September 18, 1927 at Stilwell, OK, the daughter of Hickey and Annie (Christie) Scott and died Friday, December 29, 2017 at Claremore, OK.
On December 29, 1976 she married Vaden Hester in Miami, OK. Joanna was a homemaker, but outside the home her work included selling Avon products and factory work.
Joanna’s primary role in life was as a caregiver- she was a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She cherished her family and was a loving and positive influence on everyone around her.
She was a Christian woman, strong in her faith. She read the Bible every day until her sight failed her. Her old Bible has many scriptures underlined and comments line many of the pages.
She was a wonderful cook, and could whip up a meal in under an hour, including dessert. It was always a pleasure for someone to come share a meal.
Joanna was of Cherokee descent, fluent in the language, often speaking Cherokee with her brothers and sisters. She often said she didn’t learn English until she went to school as her parents and grandparents only spoke their native tongue. She attended Chilocco Indian School in Newkirk, but did not graduate. Instead, she came home during Christmas break of her senior year to help her mother with her younger siblings.
Survivors include her daughters: Darlene Hall and husband John, Valerie Judd and husband Bruce, Terri Daniels and husband Craig. Grandchildren: Johnney Hall Jr, Jason Hall and wife Cayce, Nathan Hensley, Chad Hensley, Adam Reherman and wife Holli, Valerie Price and husband Lance, Jeff Daniels, Seth Daniels, Eric Judd and wife Erica, Stephanie Judd, Andrea Judd-Hinds and husband Andrew.
